A Report for 02/06/10

And the winter continues on its way, and we continue on our way and the twain intersect and complement each other and kick each other in the ass and take no prisoners. Lots of work turmoil, lots of car turmoil, lots of house turmoil.

But we’re together and happy.

I love the Long Winters and all the challenges that befall our path for them. Something about a Maine winter that makes survival itself a badge of honor. We’re going through it now. Not nearly as much snow as the past few years, nor as spine-numbing cold, but still a hard winter.

And we’re making it.

I’m comfortably middle-aged now, and even if I’m not even remotely secure, I’m still more secure than I’ve ever been. And with that I can winter well.
Good to be here, finally.

I love your comment on the badge of honor. Having grown up in New England, I wore that badge my whole life. It was hard to leave. But I've exchanged it for a new badge. Now I survive the blistering summers down here. After 4 years of acclimating, I shoulder it with a shrug like I did all those New England winters.

Mainers rock.

I've thought about that trade-off, and I don't think I could do it. Four years spent in Jacksonville living inside with the air-conditioning on constantly made me a pansy for extreme heat/humidity. I get moderate heat/humidity here, and I can take the cold and snow. I admire you Texans for your ability to not wilt, though.
